How To Use Social Media For Storytelling

“I’m obsessed to give the audience something they don’t see coming.” –

Deadlines, social media calendars, monthly targets – It seems all very mechanical if we see how the folks in social media industry work. But, the bright side is, these folks are obsessed, with new content. They are looking at better ways to communicate 24*7. Without the blink of an eye, they are looking for that one great idea everywhere.

It all broils down to the art of storytelling. Just like we loved those kids as toddlers, who added a little spice to their story through imagination, we as audience are still looking for those storytellers in our adult life. These are the folks who have mastered the art, probably since childhood!

But, ultimately we all have stories, how & where we communicate those stories matter. So let’s see how social media gives you that platform to see your storyboard come alive. We have listed the platforms which can be used aggressively for storytelling, here’s how:

1) Facebook

Facebook Story – Since we are talking of the word “Story” in storytelling, using the Facebook feature of 24 hour-long stories, is a great way to begin. Using the story feature ensures that people watch your content, lest they are the ones who lose the chance of witnessing those great storyboards after 24 hours.

Go Live – Facebook live is a kickass way to deliver your live stories to an audience that is excited & wants to see the “real you.” You can take up storytelling here, by taking people through your daily routine (Work + Personal) & engage them in person.

Facebook Video – Today, videos speak louder than photographs, so posting a Facebook video (Upto 120 minutes long) is a great way to put out those longer storyboards. Lots of new film releases use this platform to promote their Trailer launch & other snippets. Considering the new age of digital releases, this is a platform to reckon with.

2) Instagram

Visual Stories – Instagram, just like Facebook, has a 24-hour story option which has served wonders for those who like to be pictorial storytellers.  It’s a creative way to express what’s in your head or around you at any point in time. The extra feature of this story is that you can redirect your audience to a link through this mode on Instagram.

Grid Images – Using 3, 6, 9 grid images on Instagram offers the audience a sense of intrigue. Using your storyboard in this way can make your profile look outstanding & will drive more people to your account.

3) Twitter

Trend on Twitter – Posting on Twitter is all about the buzz. If you need that edge from others, use Twitter as a platform to communicate your narratives. Though with a word limit, Twitter is ‘The Place’, to be that buzz in the town.

Dear Hashtags – Twitter can be an even better platform if you wish to spread your ideas like a wildfire. Curate your stories with exclusive hashtags about that story, and if it hits your likes. Let the world take care of the rest. You will reach your audience in no time!

Now using Social Media for storytelling is not much different from the art you have brushed up since childhood. Here are some steps to begin with:

  1. You have an idea, Note it down.
  2. Picture it in your head, a hundred times (Until you make a feature film out of it, In Your head; of course)
  3. Now jot down that storyboard of your feature film, one scene after another.
  4. Voila, you have your story ready for the Social buzz.
